The myth of Lilith has resonated with me my entire life, but never more than the year I designed and launched this ring. Dozens of interpretations of her story span centuries, continents, and cultures, but the core themes remain the same: Lilith, Adam's first wife before Eve, refused to submit to Adam and left the Garden of Eden. Of course, she was damned for it; painted as a demon, villain, temptress, witch. They claimed she preyed on children, infants especially, as well as pregnant women. Some even say she was the snake who tempted Eve to eat the apple. Lilith is celebrated in sapphic spaces and revered in feminist history because we know better. She isn't a demon, and if she was the snake tempting Eve, she was trying to save a sister. Any woman who has ever put her needs, her desires, her happiness first, in a society centered on men, will be painted a devil. Goddess forbid a woman choose herself. Lilith was the first, but never the last.
The Lilith Ring is sleek and minimalist but still gives ample finger coverage without feeling suffocating (you can stick to your usual ring size). I chose natural, untreated Padparadscha Winza sapphires for the eyes to give the softest pop of color. My favorite detail, though, is the positioning of the snake. Her coil around your finger is languid, not tense, conveying a sense of contentment. She's at peace.
In the months leading up to the launch of Lilith, I made some excruciating decisions, throwing my life into chaos and leaving me to start over from scratch. I entered my thirty-seventh year divorced, living alone, recovering from an unexpected hysterectomy, and as a lesbian. Most importantly, I entered it wildly, deliciously, incandescently happy. I had to shed my old self to choose this rebirth, which is why the Lilith ring is my talisman of becoming.
